Additional guidance
MG22C is the Stage 2 Streamlined Forensic Report, also known as SFR2. It is used after an initial Stage 1 report – MG22B / SFR1 – has identified forensic results and the defence or court case management process raises a specific forensic issue requiring further expert evidence.
MG22C should address the identified issue directly. It may provide further forensic findings, explanation, analysis or opinion relevant to that issue. It is intended to be used as evidence unless the issue requires a full evaluative forensic report instead.
MG22C is completed by the relevant forensic expert or forensic science provider, not by police investigators. If it contains expert opinion, it must meet the applicable expert evidence requirements, including the required expert declaration.
Relationship to other MG22 forms:
- MG22A records initial forensic investigation work;
- MG22B / SFR1 provides the initial forensic results;
- MG22C / SFR2 responds to identified or disputed forensic issues; and
- MG22D records crime scene investigation or forensic examination evidence.
The report should be confined to the issues raised and should not be used as a substitute for a full report where more detailed evaluation is necessary.
