Accessibility statement

How accessible Criminal Justice Hub is, the improvements we have made, and how to ask for help or information in another format.

On this page

We want everyone to be able to use Criminal Justice Hub, including people with visual, hearing, physical, learning, cognitive and communication needs.

This statement covers criminaljusticehub.org.uk, operated by Conviction. It was prepared on 13 September 2026 and last reviewed on 21 September 2026.

Our accessibility commitment

We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our accessibility standard. We are working to meet this standard and to provide reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.

We have not established full WCAG conformance. Automated checks and selected manual tests cannot confirm that every page, document and interaction is accessible.

Using this website

You can read our public guidance without an account. The website provides:

  • a skip link to reach the main content and visible keyboard focus
  • headings, labelled navigation and search controls
  • guidance routes for witnesses, children and young people, and people needing help with disability, mental health or communication
  • directory lists alongside maps, so a map is not the only way to find a place
  • light and dark appearance options
  • controls to pause moving homepage content and support for your device’s reduced motion preference.

You can use your browser to enlarge text and change its appearance. If a page or tool does not work with your settings or access technology, please tell us.

Improvements made in September 2026

Following a review of representative pages and journeys, we have:

  • improved the header, footer and routes to guidance and services
  • corrected the homepage search field’s accessibility information and given search areas clearer names
  • added a keyboard accessible pause and play control for the decorative homepage video
  • improved visibility of keyboard focus near the fixed safety and cookie controls
  • corrected the contrast of homepage tool labels and the search form in dark mode
  • improved homepage card layouts for enlarged and spaced text
  • made cookie choices scrollable and reachable when text is enlarged
  • corrected confirmed broken links and improved directory filtering and search results.

Areas still being checked

Further testing is needed before we can claim full conformance. This includes:

  • complete journeys using screen readers such as VoiceOver and NVDA, speech input and other access technologies
  • all account, registration, form error, filter and interactive tool states
  • the accessibility of individual PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets and meaningful video content
  • all pages at increased zoom, with changed text spacing, and in different colour settings
  • third party maps, security challenges and services linked from this website.

External reports and services are provided by other organisations. Their accessibility can vary. If you cannot use a document or service linked from our site, contact us so we can consider another way to provide the information or help you reach the responsible organisation.

We have not completed an independent assessment with disabled participants. Clear navigation and automated test results do not replace that work.

Ask for information in another format

Email [email protected] if you need information in another format, such as accessible Word, large print, audio or Easy Read, or need help using the website.

Tell us which page or document you need, what would help and how you would like us to contact you. You do not need to describe a diagnosis or send details about a criminal case.

If you cannot use email, write to Conviction, PO Box 440, Manchester, M8 2GG. We will explain what we can provide and when.

Report an accessibility problem or make a complaint

Use the same email or postal address to report a problem. If you can, include the page address, what you were trying to do and the device, browser or access technology you were using.

If you are unhappy with our response, ask us to review it. You can also contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service for information and advice about equality rights.

How we tested

On 21 September 2026 we carried out automated checks with axe-core in Chromium and selected manual keyboard, search, motion, colour and layout checks. The sample covered the homepage, topic and guidance pages, directories and profiles, reports, tools, news, search, feedback and the public sign-in page. It included desktop views and a 320 CSS-pixel viewport.

We repeated checks after publishing the improvements. A narrow viewport check is not a substitute for every browser zoom or assistive technology test. The review did not test every stored record or complete an account registration, and did not involve human screen-reader users.

Our next steps

Our priorities are to complete assistive technology and end-to-end interaction testing, review documents and video alternatives, and test important tasks with people with different access needs. We will keep a record of barriers, make changes and retest them.

We will review this statement after significant changes and as further testing identifies or resolves problems.
