Aycliffe is Durham County Council’s secure children’s home for children placed through youth justice and welfare routes. Ofsted’s June 2026 report describes care for children aged 10 to 17, with education on site and health services.
The June 2026 inspection rated the home good overall following a requires-improvement judgement in March and an inadequate judgement in December 2025. Inspectors found improved safeguarding and positive relationships with children. Leadership still required improvement: interim arrangements supported safe day-to-day operation, but the absence of a registered manager since July 2025 had affected consistency of oversight.
