Atkinson is Devon County Council’s welfare secure children’s home in Exeter. The January 2026 inspection describes accommodation for up to eight children aged 10 to 17, with education on site and specialist health support. The home’s family information explains the role of key workers and how parents and carers can stay involved.
Ofsted rated the home good overall in January 2026, with outstanding health provision. Inspectors described trusting relationships, support for children’s interests and carefully planned work to help children understand their lives. They also identified areas needing attention in safeguarding discussions, staff supervision and children’s privacy and dignity.
Book on 01392 457999 in consultation with the home and the child’s social worker. Published times are Monday to Friday 3.30 to 8pm and weekends/holidays 9am to 8pm. Two visitors at a time; children under 18 need an adult. Bring photo ID and confirm the agreed duration, items and accessibility arrangements before travelling.
An independent advocate helps a child make their views heard, understand their rights and raise concerns or complaints.
