Summary

This independent review of progress at HMP Isle of Wight followed up 11 of the 35 recommendations from the 2019 inspection. Inspectors judged that three recommendations showed good progress, two showed reasonable progress, one showed insufficient progress and five showed no meaningful progress. Local management had improved work on violence, medical emergencies, applications, social care and some offender supervision. The review also records continuing overcrowding, cells without toilets or sinks, delays in mental health transfers, a backlog of assessments and inadequate arrangements for the small remand population.
