Downview inspection report 2026
Summary
inspectors were concerned by the oversight of women with long-term conditions and by the huge delays in getting very unwell women transferred to secure hospital for treatment for serious mental health difficulties. This was a positive inspection of a jail that had improved since our last inspection. With the continued committed leadership from this governor, inspectors left with some optimism that if the staffing situation can be resolved, the jail will continue to make sustained progress.
